The client is the Bor copper mine project in Serbia, operated by Zijin Mining Group. The Bor mine is a large-scale copper mine with over a century of mining history. In 2018, after Zijin Mining took over the operation, the mine was revitalized with modern mining technology and equipment. As production continues to expand, the underground transport segment urgently needed additional medium-tonnage, high-reliability mining trucks to keep up with the growing ore and mucking demand from deeper mining zones.

Challenges Faced

Strict European environmental and safety standards: As an EU candidate country, Serbia enforces increasingly strict emission and safety certification standards on mining equipment. All equipment must meet European environmental standards and be equipped with comprehensive safety protection systems.

Long inland logistics lead times: Serbia is a landlocked country. Equipment must be shipped by sea to Romanian or Croatian ports, then transferred overland via truck or barge to the mine. The entire journey takes about 70 days and involves multiple logistics nodes, placing high demands on equipment reliability and after-sales parts support.

Challenging underground conditions: The Bor mine's deep tunnels have high humidity and heavy dust, which continuously test the electrical system protection and brake system reliability of the equipment.

Beijun Solution

Shandong Beijun Group developed a customized underground transport solution centered on the 20-ton mining truck, tailored to the Bor mine's operating conditions and compliance requirements:

Primary Equipment: Beijun UK-20 Underground Mining Truck (20-Ton Class)
   Powered by a Yuchai 260-horsepower engine, delivering strong performance. The overall dimensions are 6400×2500×2460mm, well-suited to underground tunnel clearance requirements. Equipped with a wet brake system, which effectively handles long-haul braking demands in humid underground environments, significantly improving brake reliability. The truck is certified with both KA (mine safety) and EU CE certifications, meeting European market safety compliance requirements.

Key Technical Features:

Payload and maneuverability balanced: The 20-ton rated payload meets medium-scale mining zone ore and mucking demands. The vehicle width and height are optimized for maneuverability in narrow tunnels.

Wet brake safety protection: Designed for humid and dusty underground conditions, the wet brake system is fully enclosed with excellent heat dissipation, ensuring safe heavy-load downhill transport.

European emission compliance: The engine configuration meets environmental standards for export to Europe, helping the mine address local environmental regulatory requirements.

Implementation Results

Sustained transport efficiency: After the UK-20 trucks were put into operation at the Bor copper mine, they formed an efficient match with the mine's existing excavation and loading equipment. The mucking transport process connected smoothly, effectively supporting daily production targets in the mining zone.

Safe and compliant operation: The equipment passed EU CE certification and KA mine safety certification. The wet brake system performed stably in the underground high-humidity environment, and no safety incidents caused by brake failure have occurred since commissioning.

Logistics and after-sales support: Leveraging Beijun's established overseas export logistics channels and working with Zijin Mining's logistics partners in Serbia, the equipment was delivered and cleared customs smoothly.
